Transferring data between different systems can create a host of issues, especially if it is done manually.
Integrating your enterprise resource planning (ERP) system with your design tools is crucial for streamlining operations, improving product quality and maintaining data integrity.
With the introduction of the 3DEXPERIENCE Bridge (3DXBridge), manufacturers can now connect the 3DEXPERIENCE platform with the DELMIAWorks manufacturing ERP system.
3DXBridge creates a ‘single source of truth’ throughout the product lifecycle. It connects data from a SOLIDWORKS CAD model to the engineering BOM and the manufacturing BOM.
You can then effortlessly allocate materials and manage the manufacturing process from within DELMIAWorks ERP. DELMIAWorks has a built-in MES system that gives real-time data from the shop floor. This helps identify issues in the original design. Any necessary adjustments can then be applied to the next production run.
What is DELMIAWorks ERP?
DELMIAWorks, formerly known as IQMS, is an ERP system designed specifically for manufacturers. It manages everything from inventory and production to finance and customer relations, providing a comprehensive solution for operational management.
What is SOLIDWORKS?
SOLIDWORKS is a powerful 3D CAD design software used by engineers and designers worldwide. It allows for the creation of detailed digital models, aiding in the design and development of products.
Understanding the design to manufacturing process
Now that we have defined each software product, we can explore what it means to integrate the two applications.

As we can see in the diagram, manufacturers are able to not only use a design, plan and then manufacture, but also incorporate a feedback loop to constantly improve the initial design.
Design with SOLIDWORKS
Connecting SOLIDWORKS to DEMIAWorks saves manufacturers significant time savings during the design to engineering process.
As we are using the same information in SOLIDWORKS and in DELMIAWorks, we can ensure data accuracy and consistency throughout.
You’ll be able to create your design in SOLIDWORKS and then transpose your engineering Bill of Materials (eBOMs) to your manufacturing Bill of Materials (mBOMS).
Plan production in DELMIAWorks
From here, DELMIAWorks can be used to allocate materials needed to complete manufacture of the parts.
You can also ensure the right equipment, tooling and shop floor capacity is available to complete production on time and in full.
DELMIAWorks can also be used to manage the supply chain of raw materials and you can also use its inbuilt forecasting tools to calculate costs.
Manufacturing with real-time visibility
DELMIAWorks’ fully embedded MES Systems provides real-time visibility and production monitoring from the plant floor.
You can capture information about cycle times, capture process information from any machine, work centre or assembly line and track every part through production as they are made.
This information is then applied to the shop orders and updated automatically in DELMIAWorks.
Refining designs to improve quality & efficiency
As DELMIAWorks ERP is based on a single database, the software is your ‘single source of the truth’. Using the 3DXBRIDGE, effectively joins SOLIDWORKS to this single database.
You are now able to analyse the data captured from your manufacturing process (materials consumed, labour used, machine capacity and cycle times etc.) and identify any issues caused by your initial design.
Once that analysis has been completed, you’ll be able to make any modifications to ensure BOMs and production schedules are more accurate and efficient for future cycles through the loop.
